The 10 Best Movie Scenes Involving A Skateboard
With all the movies out there, many of which involve skateboards, how will you know which ones are worth watching? Well, lucky for you, here's a non-exhaustive list of the 10 best movie scenes involving a skateboard (in ascending order).
1. Hook
So maybe it’s not a skateboard, but it’s some weird combo of a sail and a board—and in any case, it’s cool, unexpected, and memorable. Rufio! Skate more! Why was this not the whole movie?
2. Clueless
This one leans heavily on “movie scenes that involve a skateboard,” because the only skateboard you see is on the desk of Travis The Skater, right before he gets up to deliver a sweet, funny, and alarmingly genuine “acceptance speech” for the honor of Most Tardies. (Note: he does ACTUALLY skateboard later in the movie, but apparently nobody in the world has posted this scene online.)
3. Gleaming the Cube
A small Christian Slater plays a skateboarding teen named Brian who solves crimes. The movie’s IMDB description actually says, “To the police [the death of Brian’s brother] looks like suicide, but Brian knows better so he skates off to investigate the murder himself.” Plus, Tony Hawk as a special guest? This entire movie is a great skateboarding scene.
4. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Right? If you haven’t seen the movie, this might feel out of place. But really, this devoid-of-tricks longboarding scene takes place in the heart-stoppingly beautiful scenery of Iceland, and folks, it’s a real good one.
5. Stick It
Even though in this scene you’re supposed to be rooting for the clearly-much-better biker (who’s actually a badass girl named Hayley, SURPRISE), skateboard dude has some moves. He made it from the roof to the pool with precisely zero broken ribs, AND jumped off a conveniently placed blue ramp in the meantime? Definitely worth several watches.
6. The Amazing Spider-Man
Real talk—I haven’t actually seen this movie. But this scene is part of Spider-Man’s training montage, which begins with him failing to jump over a paint can, and ends with him successfully leaping out of a window (on a skateboard, of course).
7. Airborne
Holy 80’s! This Airborne skate scene doesn’t feature skateboards so much as inline skates, but the skating spirit is still incredibly strong. From a sick guitar lead to killer aerial shots of half-pipe skate tricks, this scene is something you won’t want to miss.
8. Lords of Dogtown
Maybe a more realistic skating scene—one that starts out with wipeout, wipeout, wipeout...and then success. A metaphor for life, no? Skateboards aside, what really makes this scene shine are the four teenage actors—their enthusiasm, friendship, and the one dude’s slight idiocy (you’ll see what I mean at the end of the clip).
9. Back to the Future (obviously)
Come on! Back to the Future basically centers around Marty’s fly (ha) skateboarding moves. The whole time-travel thing is secondary.
It was hard to pick just one scene, but this classic skateboard-chase-scene-in-the-past is fantastic for a billion reasons—not the least of which, the line “What is that? It’s some kind of...board with wheels!”
10. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
If you haven’t seen Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, the best possible thing you can do for yourself is to WATCH IT RIGHT NOW. Or, at least, if you love the scene above, featuring a cocky Chris Evans and an over-the-top grind down a 200-step stair railing, consider making the rest of the movie a well-deserved part of your life.
